Predictable Movies Suck – Predictable Days Suck Even More…

Today I got invited by a group of friends to go to the movie theater. I didn’t necessarily want to go as I was working on my own things, however I decided to give myself a break and hang out on the Friday night. Plus, they wanted to go watch Moon which had some good reviews in rotten tomatoes and the trailers looked pretty good.

You know that feeling -somewhat instinctive- when you know that you shouldn’t do something, or go somewhere? I started getting that sensation as soon as we got into the T (Boston’s subway system) and we heard over the speakers “There will be delays due to a disabled train”. After waiting for fifteen minutes without a train passing by in any direction, we realized we wouldn’t be able to make it to the showing we originally planned. We decided to go to a different movie theater. This implied getting the train in the opposite direction and as is true in many subway stations in Boston, including MIT’s, this means going out of the station, crossing the street and repaying the fee (the only other alternative being jumping into the tracks and possibly getting electrocuted…). In any case, Murphy’s law took action: As soon as we left the station to cross the street, a train came in the direction we were originally going. To make things even better, as we started to wait now on the other side of the tracks, trains kept coming in the opposite direction. We then realized that the announced delays were happening in the direction we were now headed…

One ‘disabled’ and one FULL train later, we finally arrived to the bigger movie theater. For sure NOT showing moon. I ended up watching (and sleeping through half of it) what is probably the worst movie I have seen since I a couple of years: Year One. I don’t even want to comment on it because it would be an utter waste of time. Just listen, please for your own money, time and taste for reasonably o.k. movies, don’t watch it… its not even funny.

The lesson for me today was: I should listen to myself and my ‘intuition’ more often as this kind of things happen whenever I don’t.
